Guiding Principles

CHALLENGE. Challenge the Community to seek to develop in ways that will advance and integrate environmental conservation, economic growth, and the community’s unique geography by pursuing earth-friendly development techniques through improvements to local Zoning and Land Development regulations and unnecessarily burdensome regulatory processes that add to the adverse environmental impact(s) of development while simultaneously increasing development costs with no benefit to existing Town taxpayer's or to its future residents. 

CREATE. Create a healthy living environment that nourishes civic mindedness, promotes social interaction,  and respects the natural features of the site by reducing land consumption through smart use of the site's natural features and open spaces. Include neighborhood recreation and public use sites and facilities in planning & design from Day 1.

SUSTAIN. Provide for site specific Green Infrastructure and earth-friendly design, and to the extent permitted, by:

• Minimizing impervious surfaces and improving Storm-Water Management practices;
• Taking into account the natural features of the site when locating buildings and infrastructure; and
• Respecting solar patterns to improve energy efficiency when considering building locations and orientation.
